Couriers cruise, Covenant Christian next

SOUTH BEND (Tues., Feb. 27, 2007) – The Couriers crushed the Lakeland Christian Cougars 62-38 at Trinity to begin its defense of the 2006 ICSTS title.

For the first time in six years, the Couriers led heading into the second quarter. Todd M. and Mike T. engineered a 5-0 opening run and the Couriers rolled to an 18-5 first-quarter advantage. The Couriers never trailed and enjoyed their biggest lead of 32 points (56-24) with 5:01 remaining the contest.

After firing in 35 points at Clinton in January, Cougar guard Kenny F. was held to 13 in his final game.

With their fourth win in four tries over Lakeland Christian, the Couriers improved to 13-7. Caleb M. scored eight of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter. Todd M. added 16 and Carl M. 14.
A third straight ICSTS regional championship for the Couriers is on the line Friday when the Couriers meet Covenant Christian of DeMotte in the Northwest Regional final. Game time is 7:00 at Trinity. Covenant Christian (15-1) scored the last six points to beat Clinton 63-56 at DeMotte February 10.
