"Giant" Mirkovic dominates Couriers as Pitino watches

LAPORTE (Tues., Feb. 5, 2008) - Six-foot-ten DePaul recruit and La Lumiere center Luka Mirkovic scored 37 points and nabbed 17 rebounds as the Lakers downed the Couriers 78-62.

With former University of Kentucky and current University of Louisville coach Rick Pitino in attendance, 6'4" guard DeAndre Haskins added 22 points and 11 boards in the win. The Couriers led 18-15 after one period and 25-23 halfway through the second quarter before Mirkovic scored 14 of the next 16 points for a 39-25 Laker lead.

Todd Martin led the Couriers (12-3) with 17 points. Caleb Miller added 16 as the Couriers' winning streak ended at five games.

The junior varsity won their ninth game beating the Lakers 36-28. At 9-3, the Couriers secured their third consecutive winning season. The varsity already guaranteed a 12th straight winning season with the victory at Howe Military last Saturday.

Both teams host Covenant Christian of DeMotte Saturday at the Clinton gym. Starting time is 3:00. The Knights (6-9 through last week) are the ICSTS defending state champions.
