Couriers fall in tournament finale

HIGHLAND - The varsity volleyball Couriers dropped a close 20-25, 25-27 contest to Fulton County Christian in the championship of the Calumet Baptist Invitational Saturday. The loss left the team at 19-2-1, just one win shy of 20 victories for the fourth time in five years.

The Couriers eliminated rival Lakeland Christian in three games in a semifinal Saturday. Earlier in the day, they defeated the Lady Crusaders and Christian Liberty after going 4-0-1 in pool play that ended Saturday morning. The tie came against Fulton County, a team that has posed problems for the Couriers throughout the program's history.

The girls, currently ranked #1 in the ICSTS weekly poll, return to action tonight at First Baptist of Mishawaka following junior high and JV contests. The JV tries to rebound from their first loss of the season suffered at Westview last Monday.
